Hexadin is one of the most overused combo's in the game and very potent, but it will not majorly upset the balance or break the game. Just because something is strong and synergizes well does not make it overpowered. Paladin needs a minimum of 13 STR (and 13 CHA but that's neither here nor there) to multiclass in or out off. Hexadin is extremely potent and has a ton of synergy. And I always thought that reducing the subclass on its CHA attacks + damage was unfair, for I think the concept of a subclass that heavily curses the enemies (even more than other subclasses) is very cool. I always thought that the subclass was too reliant on the pact boon of the blade. The Hexblade Subclass gets opened up for some spicy new features. Maybe a fiend-warlock with CHA attacks + damage, for example. You can get this benefit and play different Warlock subclasses. Now, following that thought, what about a druid subclass that does the same for WIS instead of a cantrip that only allows staffs and clubs? It actually takes the same amount of levels to get CHA attacks + damage as it does to get INT attacks + damage (artificer battle smith subclass). I think with 3 levels, it is pretty well balanced. You need to invest more levels in order to get the quite strong benefit of not being MAD. Wow, this actually is an awesome idea! This solves quite a few things: I don’t think it’s particularly necessary, but it’s not unreasonable in any way, and you are well within your rights to use this as part of your house rules. Really all it does is force him to choose early on if delaying Extra Attack is worth it. It works fine, especially since the strongest endpoint for padlock is either p15/w5 or p6/w14 so you get that Cha attack in eventually either way. Rolling the Cha Attack into the blade pact is actually a pretty common houserule. Ask your player if they think simulacrum loops are balanced, or just let them skim the all time voted posts of r/powergamermunchkin and they’ll realise how untenable a position “official=balanced” is. Of course arguing “everything officially released is balanced” is even more nonsensical. Hexadin isn’t busted it’s just very good. That said “option1 is definitely more powerful than option2” does not mean option1 is broken/busted.

The overwhelming consensus is that hex1/palX is significantly stronger than pal(X+1) except at very narrow breakpoints (X=4 for example). I think saying “one could argue” is underselling things quite a bit.
